Isn't asking for absolute proof before believing something ...?

It depends on what you are being asked to believe! Someone says 'I got the bus into work this morning', I have no proof of that but I'm quite happy to accept it. Someone says 'I rode a unicorn into work this morning' - I'd want proof positive!
