What is the future of automotive fuel technology?

Presently we are pursuing electric cars using rapidly advancing battery technology. Eventually we might expect to see electric powered vehicles that have power transmitted to them through electrified roadways. Across the same lines we will have various communications and vehicle control that will allow more vehicles on congested roadways traveling at a higher rate of speed using computer controlled traffic patterns. This solves not only issues of battery weight, expense, charging times and charging availability but the problem of increasing traffic congestion.
