How hard is it to fly a small plane?

I took a small introductory lesson last weekend and it seemed fairly straightforward, although of course the conditions were near-ideal, it was a short flight during the day, the instructor was right there beside me. It was a tiny plane. Is it easier or more difficult if you pay a bit more to fly the slightly larger planes with more high-tech equipment? Is it worth the money to get a license?
